Graduated in Dentistry from the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (1989). He specialized in Periodontics at UNESP-Araraquara (1994) and received a PhD (Doctorate) in Dental Sciences (Periodontics) from the Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Japan (1999). He completed his postdoctoral studies in Periodontics at the Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Japan, and worked as a researcher and Professor at the Department of Periodontology of the University of North Carolina from 2000 to 2006. He worked as a Professor and co-coordinator for the specialization course in Periodontology at the Dental School São Leopoldo Mandic, Brazil, from 2006-2008 and served as a Visiting Professor for specialization courses in Implant Dentistry and Periodontics at the Institute for Research (IPESP) in Brasilia, Brazil, from 2006 to 2010. He is a Professor of Periodontology at the Department of Dentistry of the University of Brazil (UNB) in Brasilia. He is a Fellow of the ITI International Team for Implantology.
