Johann Lochner is a Periodontist from Somerset West in the Western Cape, South Africa. He graduated as a dentist from the University of Stellenbosch in 1996 and worked in private practice from 1996 to 2001 in Ramsgate and Margate in England. In 2000, he obtained the Membership of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioner diploma. In 2001, he worked as a Senior House Officer at the Newcastle Upon Tyne Dental School and obtained Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery from The Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2002. In 2002, he returned to work in private practice in Beckenham, Kent, in the UK until he returned to South Africa in 2004. He specialized as a periodontist and obtained the MChD (Oral Medicine and Periodontics) in 2007 from the University of the Western Cape.

He has lectured and published both Internationally as well as locally on periodontal topics and the replacement of teeth with dental implants. Since 2007, he works full time in private practice in Hout Bay, Belville and Somerset West near Cape Town. He is President of the South African Society for Periodontology, an ITI Fellow and Vice President of the Cape Society of Dental Implantology.
