Reflecting 25 years of evolution in the use of endosseous dental implants, this lecture presents the state of the art in regard to implant materials, surface characteristics, and component designs. How do the biological tissues respond to different variations? Is one material or surface preferable to another, and if so, how should the clinician decide which to use? Does one component design result in more tissue apposition or tissue loss than another design?
