Conscious Sedation Considerations and Patient Management in Implant Dentistry Learning

Speaker: Dr Xin Hui Yeo

Dr. Xin Hui Yeo specialises in implantology, conscious sedation, and special care dentistry. She holds a BDS from the University of Glasgow, an MSc in Dental Implantology from the University of Bristol, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Conscious Sedation. Currently an ITI Scholar at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, she spends time in oral and maxillofacial surgery and periodontics department.

Dr. Yeo has extensive clinical experience, having served as a Specialty Registrar in Special Care Dentistry at Royal London Hospital, where she carried out and supervised intravenous and inhalation sedation for anxious and medically complex patients. Her research contributions in dental sedation safety have been published in leading journals, and she has received multiple awards for her work on sedation in dentistry.

An active member of the International Team for Implantology (ITI), Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry (SAAD) and Association of dental anaesthetist and sedationist (ADAS), Dr. Yeo is committed to advancing patient-centered care and education in dental sedation and implant dentistry.

Objectives:

1. To discuss and apply a systematic approach to risk assessment and risk management for sedation in implant dentistry, considering patient comorbidities and medication interactions.

2. To evaluate the current evidence supporting or contraindicating the use of sedation in medically compromised patients undergoing dental implant procedures.

3. To explore sedation techniques, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological options, to enhance patient comfort, safety, and surgical outcomes in implant dentistry.
