Dental Implants: Complications to Maintenance - Dr Chris Millen
Dr Christopher Millen is a Consultant and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry at the Edinburgh Dental Institute. His main NHS focus is the oral rehabilitation of head and neck cancer patients using complex prosthodontic and implant techniques. At the Dental Institute he teaches postgraduate students and is involved in the training of future specialists in Restorative Dentistry and other disciplines. His interests lie in all aspects of Restorative Dentistry, focussing on Prosthodontics (replacement of missing teeth), Periodontics (gums and tissues surrounding the teeth) and Implantology.
He completed his specialist training in Edinburgh, during which time he was awarded a scholarship by the International Team for Implantology (ITI) to study and work in Bern, Switzerland. During this time, Dr Millen worked closely with some of the most renowned practitioners in dental implantology in the world. He has published several scientific articles in internationally peer-reviewed journals and was part of the 5th ITI consensus conference on dental implants. He is a registered speaker and fellow of the ITI.
Dr Millen is past chair for the Young ITI UK & Ireland committee as well as being a member of the British Society of Prosthodontics, the Royal Odontochirugical Society of Scotland and the British Society of Restorative Dentistry.
Aim:
To provide an update on likely complications and future maintenance of dental implants
Objectives:
Describe the burden of dental implants on the population
To have a knowledge of maintenance needs of our implant patients
To have knowledge of common implant complications

This training session is intended to support practitioners in minimising and evaluating complications across dental implant prostheses.
