Soft tissue augmentation around dental implants. Volume augmentation and keratinized tissue gain

Abstract

Despite high survival and success rates of dental implants, their long-term functioning may be jeopardised by peri-implant diseases, namely peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis. A growing number of evidence suggests that quality and quantity of peri-implant soft tissue may play a crucial role in maintaining peri-implant health. Furthermore, adequate soft tissue volume is an important aspect of aesthetic outcomes of implant-supported restorations in the anterior areas.

A number of surgical techniques have been suggested for the augmentation of soft tissue volume, as well as for keratinised tissue gain, utilising autologous tissue grafts and their substitutes.

The presentation will cover indications to peri-implant mucosa augmentation around dental implants and its biological rationale, as well surgical techniques. Various clinical scenarios will be discussed: implant placement in healed ridges, implant uncovering, immediate implant placement, treatment of peri-implantitis and covering soft-tissue dehiscences.

NAME: Myroslav Solonko

 Received his dental degree from the Lviv National Medical University (Lviv, Ukraine). In 2008, received a degree of master of science from the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery. 

In 2012/2013 spent one year as an ITI Scholar in the University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong, China). In 2015 received the title “Expert in clinical periodontology” from the University Complutense of Madrid (Madrid, Spain). In 2015-2018 completed his 3-years post-graduate specialty training in periodontology and implant dentistry in the University Complutense of Madrid, accredited by the European Federation of Periodontology. 

In 2016, became a cofounder of the non-profit organization “Ukrainian Academy of Periodontology”.

Currently, he is doing his PhD program in the University Complutense of Madrid, and owns a private practice in Lviv, Ukraine. He is also the honorary president of the Ukrainian Academy of Periodontology and runs a private practice in Lviv, Ukraine.
