Surgical Planning and Procedures

Improve Patient Quality of Life by Using Short Implants, Narrow Implants and Cantilevers

Christoph Hammerle

Implant surgeries can be quite challenging when the sites present with restrictions of bone volume. In this lecture, Dr. Hämmerle introduced 3 alternative solutions (cantilevers, short implants and narrow implants) that may simplify the surgical procedures, reduce clinicians’ stress level and decrease mobility rates. Based on the current scientific evidence, he discussed in depth the survival rates, marginal bone levels, complications rates and types, patient-reported outcomes and operator ratings of the 3 alternative solutions compared to conventional treatments of standard implants with or without various bone augmentation techniques.

At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…

  • name the benefits of the cantilevers, short implants and narrow implants
  • explain the limitations and precautions of each solution based on current scientific evidence
  • discuss the clinical implications of cantilevers, short implants and narrow implants
  • describe the classifications for narrow diameter implants
