  COURSE DESCRIPTION:

As dental implant therapy continues to be the standard of care in the dental industry, dental clinicians are faced with treating surgical and restorative complications that arise from their treatment. Complications can arise at any stage from patient assessment to maintenance therapy and for a multitude of reasons: improper surgical and prosthetic treatment planning, prosthetic failure, soft tissue mismanagement, implant malpositioning and peri-implantitis to name a few.

 COURSE OBJECTIVES:

 ·       Ability to identify various complications to help diagnose, treat and avoid both surgical and prosthetic complications

·       Factors leading to complications and the reasons they occur especially in the esthetic zone

·       Treatment planning complex cases

 ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

 Dr. Philip Fava is a full-time practicing periodontist and implant surgeon, maintaining offices in both Philadelphia and Ambler, PA. His practice is focused on surgical implant placement, periodontal plastic surgery procedures, reconstructive and regenerative therapy, LANAP®, LAPIP®, and Pinhole® Surgical Technique. Dr. Fava completed his specialty residency in Periodontics and Masters in Dental Science (MDSc) at the University of Connecticut (UConn) where he served as the chief resident. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in Philadelphia from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine (UPenn). Dr. Fava is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and a Fellow of the International Team of Implantology (ITI). He presently serves as Co-Director of the Philadelphia Tri-State ITI Study Club, President of the Eastern Dental Society, the leader of two Spear Study Clubs, Advisory Board Member of Spear Masters Program and faculty of DevRight Speaker Development Series. He lectures nationally on various topics including periodontics, dental implant surgery and practice management. Dr. Fava has authored and co-authored articles published in scientific journals including the Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry and frequently contributes to the dental literature in the area of periodontal surgical techniques, dental implants, bone grafting. gingival grafting and protocols for predictable implant placement.

 Dr. Robert A. Levine maintains a private practice in Philadelphia focusing on Surgical Implant Placement, Cosmetic Oral Plastic Surgery Procedures, Reconstructive and Regenerative Therapy. He graduated from Temple University School of Dentistry in 1981, received his post-grad certificate in Periodontics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984 and is presently a Clinical Professor in Post-Graduate Periodontics and Dental Implantology at the Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry, a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry at Chapel Hill and an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry at Chicago. Dr. Levine is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, a Fellow of the College of Physicians in Philadelphia, a Fellow of the International Society of Periodontal Plastic Surgeons and a Fellow of the Academy of Osseointegration. He has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally and serves on the Editorial Boards of numerous international scientific dental journals and has authored over 80 articles and 4 book chapters. He is a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI) of Basel, Switzerland and was one of 100 representatives from around the world invited to participate in the ITI 4th Consensus Conference in Stuttgart, Germany (2008), at the 5th Consensus Conference in Bern, Switzerland (2013) and the 2018 6th Consensus Conference in Amsterdam to establish treatment protocols for implant dentistry worldwide. Dr. Levine also shares his knowledge and 30 years’ experience with periodontal, prosthodontic and general practice residencies throughout the United States as a visiting professor and mentor.

Dr. Steven Present maintains a full time private practice in North Wales, PA. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and Temple University School of Dentistry where he graduated with honors and was elected into Omicron Kappa Upsilon. Dr. Present did postgraduate studies in microbiology and immunology at the Thomas Jefferson Medical College and completed a program for the treatment of oral facial pain and temporomandibular disorders at the New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry. Dr. Present is a past contributor to the U. S. Pharmacopeia Drug Information for Health Care Professionals, a member of the Academy of Osseointegration and its Credentials Committee and GP recruitment, a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology of Basel, Switzerland and member of the ITI's Library Committee and a Fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. He is a Clinical Associate Professor at Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry and was the national dental consultant for Health Advocate Inc. He has lectured both nationally and internationally on advanced and complex implant reconstruction and was awarded a Certificate in Implant Dentistry from the Academy of Osseointegration.

.Dr. Harry Randel received a BA from Rutgers College, a DMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, General Practice Residency from the Veterans Administration Medical Center and a Specialty Certificate in Prosthodontics from the Temple University School of Dentistry. Dr. Randel completed a three year didactic and participatory continuing education course in Dental Implantology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He maintains a full time practice in NE Philadelphia in Prosthodontics and Advanced Restorative Dentistry. Dr. Randel has several articles published and is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American College of Prosthodontists, the Pennsylvania Prosthetic Association and the Academy of Osseointegration. He is a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology and was awarded a Certificate in Implant Dentistry from the Academy of Osseointegration.

Dr. Andrew R. Samuel, is a full-time practicing periodontist/implant surgeon and owns Coastal Monmouth Dental Specialists, LLC, a multispecialty periodontics/endodontics practice in Ocean, NJ.  His practice focuses on regenerative periodontal treatment, minimally-invasive soft tissue grafting, guided surgical implant placement, and LANAP/LAPIP.  He earned his BA and DMD in Boston University’s Six-Year Combined Liberal Arts/Dental Education Program where he graduated as valedictorian. Dr. Samuel completed his specialty training in Periodontology at Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry.  He was then appointed to the faculty as Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Periodontology and Oral Biology. Dr. Samuel practiced periodontics in the Boston area before moving back to his native Ocean, New Jersey opening his solo periodontics practice in January 1996 and later acquiring Jersey Shore Endodontics in 2020. He continues his academic contribution by teaching periodontics in the General Practice Residency Program at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ. He has been recognized for his dedication to the dental residents and excellence in teaching by being awarded the "Attending Specialist of the Year Award" four times. He lectures on various topics in periodontics and implantology including soft tissue grafting, periodontal regeneration, and 3D Navigation for Implant Placement at several study clubs and national dental meetings. Dr. Samuel is a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI) and member of the American Academy of Periodontology, American Dental Association, New Jersey Dental Association, the Monmouth Ocean County Dental Society, and Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. Dr. Samuel has also been recognized as a NJ Top Dentist by NJ Monthly Magazine every year since 2009.
