About the Scholarship Center

The ITI Scholarship program at the University of Geneva is hosted by the Division of Fixed Prosthodontics and Biomaterials. In this division the specializing clinicians are active in both implant surgery as well as implant prosthodontics. Furthermore, a close collaboration with other divisions involved in implant dentistry like the Division for Periodontology and the Division for Oral Surgery offers a broad view onto the entire field of dental implantology to the scholars in Geneva.

As Geneva University is in the French speaking part of Switzerland, good knowledge of French is recommended. For clinical activities a B2 level of French is mandatory.

Overview of clinical activities during the Scholarship year

Activities during the Scholarship year

During the Scholarship year, the ITI Scholar will participate in the following clinical activities at both universities:

Treating patients under supervision:
At the University of Geneva scholarship center the ITI scholars in principle have the possibility to treat specific clinical cases with localized problems during their scholarship year under the supervision of senior faculty. For this, it is mandatory to validate the dental diploma in Switzerland (MEBEKO). and with this validated document to receive the approval by the cantonal physician to treat patients in the canton of Geneva (Médecin cantonal). The detailed information for these requests is given below in the section "Special requirements for this scholarship center".

The complexity and the amount of these cases is defined by the senior faculty in charge of the ITI scholars or the chair of the Division, and is depending on the clinical experience and experience of the ITI scholar.

In general patients with the need for fixed tooth- and implant- borne reconstructions are treated at the Division of Fixed Prosthodontics and Biomaterials. The treatments encompass the clinical concept of the Division, including most recent digital technology and new dental materials. The clinical spectrum encompasses treatment planning and diagnostics in close interaction with the dental technicians, the placement of implants, and the subsequent rehabilitation of patients by means of tooth- and implant-borne restorations.

Observing clinical patient treatment:
The ITI scholars receive a profound theoretical and clinical education in the clinical concepts of the University of Geneva. In weekly treatment planning seminars, the step-by-step approach is being trained.

Assisting in patient treatment :
The ITI scholars have the possibility to participate and assist in the clinical treatments of the Division chair, the senior faculty as well as the post-graduate students.

Close interactions between the Divisions of Fixed Prosthodontics and Biomaterials, Removable Prosthodontics and Geriodontology, Operative Dentistry, Periodontology and Oral Surgery enable the ITI scholars in Geneva to join the interdisciplinary patient care and to learn how to approach complex clinical situations.

Furthermore, the interaction between the prosthodontists and orthodontists is specifically trained in regular interdisciplinary case planning seminars with the Division of Orthodontics.

During the Scholarship year, the ITI Scholar will participate in the following research activities at both universities:

The research areas of the Division of Fixed Prosthodontics and Biomaterials encompass clinical studies on fixed reconstructions testing new implant and tooth based restorative concepts, optical impressions and digital technology in dentistry and new dental materials. Furthermore, biomaterial basic research is performed. Development of new implant surfaces and regenerative materials and their biologic integration is performed, as well as the property testing of dental restorative materials. Strong interaction between the basic sciences and the clinical research exist, translating the basic information into clinical reality. The ITI scholars can intensely participate in the research of the Division, and have the possibility to develop and pursue own scientific projects in the scope of the research of the Division.
