9:00- 9:15 Introduction to the day with Gemma Sheridan
9:15 - 10:45 Bone Augmentation for Dental Nurses
Speaker: David Hotchen
David qualified in Dentistry from The University of Liverpool in 2012. As a student, he represented his dental school in a prestigious restorative dentistry contest, finishing in 2nd place nationally. On graduation, he was awarded the Dental School's Prize for Restorative Dentistry. He has since worked both in both General Dental Practice and as a Senior House Officer in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
David has been providing dental implant treatments since 2014. He completed his dental implant training at Cambridge Academy of Dental Implantology and initially worked alongside Willie Jack, gaining invaluable experience not only in placing implants, but also restoring both modern and older systems. He soon completed training in advanced and complex surgical implant procedures before gaining a distinction in his Dental Implantology Masters degree in 2019. David has a particular interest in the use of the latest digital and CADCAM technologies in dental implant procedures and especially enjoys using these modern techniques to help those with more complex needs. He is a member of the International Team for Implantology and UK Association of Dental Implantology.
Aim:
- To increase dental nurses knowledge of bone augmentation techniques and materials in implant dentistry
Objectives:
- Understand different types of bone augmentation techniques commonly used in implant dentistry.
- Gain a knowledge of types of bone graft materials.
- Tips for four-handed dentistry during GBR techniques.

11:15- 11:45 Volunteering for Dentaid as a Dental Nurse
Speaker: Gemma Sheridan
Registered Dental Nurse & ITI Fellow - GDC 261476
Gemma began her journey as a dental nurse 7 years ago and has worked in both NHS and private dental practices. She is currently practicing at the Dental Implant Clinic, in Bath, alongside Amy. Throughout her career, she has broadened her knowledge by gaining her Dental Radiography for DCPs and implant nursing qualifications and is currently studying dental sedation nursing. After assisting with numerous dental procedures, it became clear to her that she was determined to work within a primarily surgical environment. Gemma is excited to be part of the ITI Dental Nurses Committee and to work alongside a talented team of dental nurses. She is keen to share her knowledge and passion and is looking forward to meeting other like-minded professionals within the dental industry
11:45- 13:00 Clinical Photography for Dental Nurses
Speaker: Shivam Kotecha
Shivam is a general dentist, practicing at two private clinics in Berkshire. He has developed an impressive portfolio through his clinical practice, crediting photography as a pivotal element in his early professional growth. He has also lectured across the UK on clinical documentation, reflection, and portfolio building.
Graduating from the University of Leeds in 2022, he was awarded several prestigious prizes, including the Watsman Prize for his outstanding documentation and presentation in his finals cases.
Shivam is an active member of the ITI and the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, where he sits on the Board and chairs the Young Membership Committee.
Aim:
- To provide delegates with the knowledge and tools to take high quality clinical photos
Objectives:
- To give an overview of photography in dentistry
- Discuss the barriers to taking photos and how to overcome them
- Highlight what accessories can be used to aid the taking of high quality images in dentistry
- Explain how advanced lighting options can enhance the quality of images
- Overview lighting set ups for portrait photography
- Provide a live demonstration on clinical photography
- Facilitate a hands-on practical for delegates in a small group format

14:45 - 15:15 Dental Nursing, what’s next?
Speaker: Allie Crisp
Allie started her career in dentistry as a dental nurse and then progressed to qualify as a Hygiene Therapist in 2008. With over 20 years of experience within dentistry, Allie has a wealth of knowledge. Allie now worked within the community treating special care patients, and is now able to provide inhalation sedation to help patients through their dental anxieties. Treating anxious patients and children is what Allie finds particularly rewarding. Outside of dentistry, Allie can be found reading a book or getting hands on with crafts or gardening.
Aim:
- To provide an overview of the career pathways for qualified dental nurses, with a specific focus on a career within Community Dental Services
Objectives:
- To investigate the different career pathways available once you have a dental nursing qualification
- To have an overview of the extra qualifications and further education options available to Dental Nurses
- An explanation of how the community Dental services work and an insight into special care dentistry.
15:15- 15:45 Break
15:45 - 16:45 Mental Health Awareness and the positive power of music
Speaker: Lauren Taylor
Laurens sound healing sessions offer a unique opportunity for your team to experience a calming and rejuvenating practice that promotes relaxation focus, and over all well-being. Using crystal singing bowls, chakra chimes, and other soothing instruments, the session will create an immersive environment where participants can unwind, reset and recharge.
The benefits of this session include a significant reduction in stress, as the soothing frequencies help to induce relaxation. It supports enhanced focus and mental clarity, encouraging creative thinking and productivity. Participants feedback often include feeling well rested and clear minded, with improved sleep quality following from the experience.
Aim:
- To enable delegate to use tools shown in this session to help reduce stress and increase a state of relaxation.
Objective:
- To learn new skills to help maintain good mental health and enable delegates to use these tools to reduce their stress levels during busy times in and out of clinic.
