From peri-implant health to peri-implantitis: An update on management
From peri-implant health to peri-implantitis: An update on management
The use of implants is now commonly considered when planning a patient's oral rehabilitation. As such, the prevention and treatment of biological complications has become an increasingly routine aspect of patient care. A gold standard protocol for the treatment of peri-implantitis, however, remains elusive and successful treatment outcomes have not consistently been reported. In the current world, where we are inundated with novelty and a dizzying amount of evidence, it is difficult to decipher the optimal approach to patient management.
This presentation will delve into key findings and recommendations from guidelines published in 2023, by one of the most pre-eminent bodies in periodontology, The European Federation of Periodontology, and how this can be used as a starting place to make decisions on how we manage our patients. Alongside clinical cases, this talk will cover case selection in implant treatment, the current evidence supporting different approaches to the non-surgical and surgical management of peri-implantitis, the role of mucogingival surgery around implants, and the decision to explant.
