Cone Beam CT in Implant Dentistry: Basics and Beyond
The appropriate use of CBCT imaging should always be based on a risk/benefit analysis. This lecture reviews the basics of CBCT imaging, the evolution of this technology over the past 20 years, and its limitations. The effects of dose reduction, voxel size, and metal artifacts and the use of CBCT to determine bone density are key concepts in this lecture. Various images are shown to support the use of the ALADAIP principle (as low as diagnostically acceptable, indication-oriented and patient-specific) in clinical practice.

At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…
- recognize basics of CBCT imaging as a diagnostic tool
- describe the evolution of CBCT imaging in recent years
- recognize the limits of CBCT imaging
- discuss techniques to improve CBCT images in clinical practice
