Introduction to Implant Dentistry
Two-Piece Implants
Implants where the prosthodontic platform is provided by a separate abutment component are called two-piece or bone level implants. This Learning Pathway looks at the two-piece implant design in detail and offers examples of its use in different indications. It also compares and contrasts advantages and limitations of the two-piece implant design against the one-piece implant design.

On completion of this Learning Pathway you should be able to:
- describe the two-piece implant design
- explain the impact of different abutment/implant interface designs on the marginal bone crest
- discuss indications, advantages and limitations of the two piece-implant design
