Pathway

Principles of Guided Bone Regeneration

It is often necessary to augment the alveolar bone to ensure that implants can be placed correctly in the prosthodontically determined position and also be completely embedded in bone. This Learning Pathway will describe the specific technique for bone augmentation known as guided bone regeneration or GBR and offer discussion of the principles and evidence base that underpins it as well as clinical videos and cases by way of illustration.

On completion of this Learning Pathway you should be able to:

  • describe the biological principles of guided bone regeneration (GBR)
  • describe the development of GBR as a clinical technique
  • list the indications for GBR
  • discuss the evidence base
  • discuss clinical case examples
