Introduction to Implant Dentistry
Implant Loading Protocols
Loading is the term applied to putting an implant into function by the connection of the implant prosthesis. The time point after implant placement at which loading takes place is referred to as a loading protocol. There are currently three recognized protocols: immediate, early or conventional loading. The choice of the most suitable loading protocol in a given case is an important step in the process of treatment planning. This Learning Pathway presents the different criteria for choosing a loading protocol together with the treatment modifiers to be considered.

On completion of this Learning Pathway you should be able to...
- define immediate, early, and conventional implant loading protocols
- recognize the treatment modifiers that influence the selection of loading protocols
- select the appropriate loading protocol according to different clinical situations.
