Introduction to Implant Dentistry
Hard Tissue Regeneration
This Learning Pathway covers the biologic requirements and mechanisms for hard tissue regeneration. The focus of this Pathway is on guided bone regeneration (GBR) procedures. It also provides concise and useful summaries of the socket healing process and the materials used in grafting – autogenous grafts, xenografts, and synthetic materials. The use of GBR in simultaneous and staged grafting procedures is also presented.

On completion of this Learning Pathway you should be able to...
- define tissue regeneration and explain the need for guided bone regeneration (GBR) procedures
- describe the process of healing after extraction
- explain the ideal properties and types of grafting materials
- describe the use of GBR for simultaneous and staged grafting
