Intermediate level overview

The Intermediate level builds on the knowledge acquired in the Foundation level, applying it in surgical placement and live patient treatment with the help of a mentor. On completion of this course, you will have acquired:

  • Competence in the assessment, planning and performance of the surgery and prosthodontic treatment
  • Practical expertise in treating straightforward and minimally advanced cases according to the SAC classification

Learning objectives To apply the knowledge attained at Foundation level in the treatment of straightforward patient cases, including performing assessments, planning, surgical placement and restorations
Entry criteria Successful completion of Foundation level
Course delivery

Taught largely on-site with an authorized partner institution supported by online learning modules

Formative online assessments to complement each learning module

Surgical implant placement simulations with Touch Surgery app to be completed on mobile devices

Formative Touch Surgery implant placement simulation tests

Live patient treatment of four patient cases to be completed on-site or under mentored clinical supervision

Duration Between 11 days and 6 months (determined by partner institution)
Criteria for certification

Submission of case presentations of four patient treatment cases (completed under supervision of and signed off by mentor)

Final online examination

On-Site - Intermediate level hands-on program - Title

Hands-on program

The Intermediate level hands-on program comprises the following topics:

  • Digital planning
    • Digital planning exercise including CBCT on cases provided
    • Fabrication of the surgical template for the cases selected for live surgery
  • Surgical training
    • Cognitive Simulation with Touch Surgery
    • Flap and drilling exercises
  • Prosthodontic training
    • Workshop on digital implant impressions
  • Maintenance of peri-implant tissues
    • Exercises on models for maintenance, and surgical management of peri-implantitis

The ITI Certificate will be awarded on completion of the hands-on session and passing the online exam. The education content is based on the evidence-based approach embodied in the ITI philosophy and leads to the internationally recognized ITI Certificate: Intermediate level.

On-Site - Intermediate level patient treatment - Title

Patient treatment

Case work-up

  • Participants each present their cases including risk assessment and treatment plan
  • Group discussion of each participant case

Live treatment

  • On-site: Participants pair up to assist in live treatment of four cases each
  • In own or mentor’s practice: Each participant treats four patients

Completed cases

  • Each participant submits four patient case presentations to a designated supervisor for sign off

On-Site Curriculum - FL Examination

Examination & certification

Participants who successfully complete the hands-on program and pass the final online examination after completing all the domain topics will be awarded ITI certification. The final examination is a multiple-choice online exam consisting of 80 questions to be completed in 90 minutes. The pass mark for this exam is 60% and must be completed successfully for certification.
