About the Scholarship Center

About the Scholarship Center

The Department of Periodontology has teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels, and also runs a Specialist Clinic dedicated to periodontology and implant dentistry. The Specialist Clinic is staffed primarily with specialists in periodontology, a few general practitioners with a focus on periodontology, and dental hygienists. Patients with varying degrees of periodontal disease receive treatment including conservative, reconstructive, and regenerative periodontal procedures, on a referral basis. Often patients, after getting their periodontitis under control, receive implant therapy. Depending on the referral, the surgical part – including bone augmentation, if needed, and implant installation – may be performed in the Specialist Clinic, while the prosthetic part is performed at the referring clinic; in several instances the prosthetic part is also performed in the clinic.

Within the framework of post-graduate education, weekly seminars and journal clubs take place at the department, and occasionally in collaboration with other departments within the faculty. The seminars often host international speakers, but they are sometimes prepared by the postgraduate students. Further, the newly established local Malmo ITI Study Club also holds its meetings on the department’s premises, and there are international and national faculty lectures about 4 times each year.

Finally, the department performs preclinical and clinical research in collaboration with local, national, and international partners.

The ITI Scholar can take advantage of all the above departmental activities. Specifically, depending on the ITI Scholar’s background and wishes, it will be possible to participate in the following clinical activities:
