When learning something new, I know from the start it will take me some time. While trying new techniques, I know I will have to learn from my mistakes. Even better is to learn from other’s mistakes. Where do things go wrong in dental implantology?

Is it about patient selection? Did we do a bad planning or was it a bad execution of a good plan?

What risk factors do we have to take into account? Are these biological, mechanical or even personal?

Then comes into play the prosthetic reconstruction. Which protocol is being followed? Are the components and the choice of materials playing a role? What about an abutment cleaning protocol? Are there guidelines for a ‘safe’ occlusion? What can we learn from the dental technician and what information does he need from us? And what about the aesthetic complications?

It is not about short-term survival, is it? It is all about long-term success!
