Occlusal considerations and biomechanical loading in implant dentistry

Speaker: Asst. Prof. Dr. Chatcharwin Ungurawasaporn

Topic: Occlusal Considerations and Biomechanical Loading in Implant Dentistry

Dental implants have transformed restorative dentistry by providing durable and esthetically pleasing tooth replacement solutions. However, the success of implant restorations hinges on understanding biomechanical loading and occlusal considerations.

Implants differ from natural teeth due to osseointegration and the absence of periodontal ligaments, leading to direct force transmission to the bone. This requires careful biomechanical planning to prevent overload and ensure bone preservation.

Occlusal planning is vital as implants lack proprioception, making them susceptible to occlusal discrepancies. Effective strategies include ensuring even force distribution, minimizing lateral contacts, and employing suitable occlusal schemes like mutually protected occlusion or group function.
