To describe and review the osseointegration process highlighting the most recent research available.

To reveal the variety of implant surfaces available in the industry today

To examine the research on these surfaces and consider in detail the quality of the evidence

Objectives

To be able to decide which surface is appropriate for your clinical practice

To be able to decide the appropriate loading protocol for your chosen surface

To have an awareness of future research in this field, such as bioactive or biomimetic surfaces


Dr Colin Burns

BDS MFDS RCS (Eng) MSc (Implant Dentistry)

Dentist with Special Interest in Implant Dentistry

Fellow of the International Team of Implantology (ITI)

Colin qualified from Glasgow University in 1990 and received his MFDS RCS from The Royal College of Surgeons England in 2005. In 2011 he completed a Masters’ Degree with Merit in Implant Dentistry from the University of Warwick. He is a registered ITI Mentor, ITI Speaker and is a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology. He is Chairman of the UK and Ireland Section of the ITI. He is a member of several teaching faculties including the Campbell Academy, BAIRD, University of Central Lancashire, NES Scotland, and the ITI. His particular area of interest is implant surface technology, bone biology and bone regeneration which formed the title of his Dissertation in his Masters’ Programme. Colin is primarily based at the Scottish Centre for Excellence in Dentistry in Glasgow, a large multidisciplinary centre that accepts referrals from over 900 Dentists, and at G1 in Glasgow City Centre. He places and restores implants and carries out hard and soft tissue augmentation procedures.
