Complications of Sinus Floor Elevation

Özgür Erdogan

Sinus floor elevation using either the lateral window or transcrestal approach is a predictable surgical procedure with proven success, low complication rates, and high survival rates.

However, as with all surgical procedures, complications and failures do occur.

This learning module will provide an overview of the most commonly seen intraoperative and postoperative complications associated with sinus floor elevation and will discuss management in terms of preventative measures as well as treatment strategies.

After completing this ITI Academy Module, you should be able to define, discuss preventive measures, and describe treatment strategies for:

  • intraoperative complications of lateral window sinus floor elevation
  • intraoperative complications of transcrestal sinus floor elevation
  • postoperative complications of sinus floor elevation
