How to be Successful in Replacing Multiple Missing Adjacent Teeth in the Esthetic Zone
Congress Lecture
Structured Assessment and Treatment Planning
Torsten Reichert gives a comprehensive overview on medical risk factors in elderly patients related to dental implant surgery. In recent years, an increasing number of elderly patients have had dental implants placed; moreover, increasingly complex surgeries are being performed in these patients today. He describes the high risk factors for implant treatment that are independent of any age such as serious osseous disorders, immunodeficiencies, drug habits, and psychological/mental disorders. This lecture focuses on five disorders common in elderly patients and covers the special considerations required for patients with these risk factors: cardiovascular disease, bleeding disorders, diabetes, osteoporosis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Even though these conditions are not contraindications for implant placement, they should be well controlled prior to implant therapy.
