This lecture discusses the treatment of edentulism as a chronic condition and denture therapy as a palliative treatment with the aim of improving function and quality of life. A key concept is that patient satisfaction should be the standard by which denture success is measured.
The focus of this lecture is a study comparing mandibular complete conventional dentures vs. overdentures retained by two implants. These results clearly show that implant overdentures exceed patient expectations and were rated higher by patients for a number of quality-of-life benchmarks. The lecture concludes with information on three-implant, single-implant, and mini-implant overdentures.
At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…
discuss treatment planning considerations for implant overdentures
compare satisfaction and quality of life outcomes for implant overdentures and conventional dentures
describe the advantages and disadvantages of three-implant, single-implant, and mini-implant overdentures
