Advances in Bone Regenerative Materials

Nikos Mardas

Nikos Mardas gives a comprehensive overview of the principles and techniques of guided bone regeneration (GBR). His presentation is based on the idea that available GBR biomaterials should be selected according to evidence and universally acceptable treatment protocols rather than chosen by clinician habits or market forces. He explains that the success of GBR is influenced by systemic factors of the patient, by the choice of biomaterials - both bone regenerative materials and barrier membranes - and by the selected treatment approach. He describes in detail how different defect types can be regenerated and which biomaterials are most applicable in order to achieve a successful treatment outcome. This presentation concludes with predictions for the future of GBR biomaterials.

  • describe the limitations of vertical ridge augmentation
