About the Scholarship Center

About the Scholarship Center

The Eastman Dental Hospital in Rome was founded in 1933. It is the largest dental center in Italy, with more than 100 chairs and 30 beds for in-patient treatment that is carried out in four dedicated operating theaters.

The Department of Periodontology and Prosthodontics provides periodontal and restorative therapy. Great emphasis is placed on routine daily work to provide patients with comprehensive treatment that might include implants. More than 1,200 new patients are treated each year. The department has been involved in implant dentistry since the late 80s. Currently more than 500 oral implants are placed every year.

Edentulous and partially edentulous patients are treated with implant-supported restorations. Bone augmentation procedures such as GBR, sinus grafts or block grafts are part of daily practice. Surgery using general anesthesia or conscious sedation is performed each week. Selected cases are treated in collaboration with the Maxillo-Facial Surgery Department.

In 2003, the Department of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry was fundamentally modernized and redesigned. The department's dental lab with three dental technicians focuses exclusively on implant-supported prosthodontics; the department runs several clinical trials every year.
