More than 150 ITI Fellows attended this year's Annual General Meeting in Barcelona at which a number of important decisions were made, which are reflected in a revised version of the Articles of the ITI.
The General Assembly of Fellows approved the establishment of two new Committees: the Study Club Committee under the leadership of Luca Cordaro (Italy) and the Scholarship Committee, which is chaired by Frauke Müller (Switzerland). Both chairpersons will join the ITI Board of Directors. The General Assembly also agreed to increase the total number of committee members to 46, making it possible to include more young and/or female ITI Fellows on international committees and also allowing more Sections to be directly represented in decision-making.
A new Section Officer category was approved by the General Assembly. The Section Communications Officer will be a member of the Section Leadership team. He/she is responsible for managing the Section website and Section communications via and on the ITInet as well as representing the Section in the Forum Implantologicum/Annual Report and local implant community.
Fellow nomination will be streamlined so that a candidate must demonstrate a high level of activity in at least one as opposed to two of the following areas: Education, research or leadership in a professional dental organization. The four-yearly Fellow Review will be eliminated altogether.
David Cochran was welcomed as a Board member at large to replace Pedro Bullón, who finished his term of office. Past-President Dieter Weingart also left the Board after finishing his term of office. ITI President Daniel Buser also announced that the Board will propose David Cochran as President-elect in 2012.
Finally, Thomas Straumann and Walter Widmer were awarded ITI Honorary Fellowship for their decades of dedication to the ITI and the field of implant dentistry.
The next ITI Annual General Meeting will be held on September 1, 2012 in London, UK.
