Course Information

This one-week course was established 13 years ago and was designed for clinicians with experience in the field of implant dentistry. This basic course presents evidence-based treatment concepts for the rehabilitation of fully and partially edentulous patients. Besides a series of lectures, the participants can watch live surgeries and observe how dental implants are applied in patients. In addition, a live prosthetic session will be offered. The course also offers the opportunity to participate in treatment planning as well as surgical and prosthetic hands-on sessions. A visit to the Straumann production center in Villeret is included.

The four course directors are supported in their work by a strong faculty that includes Professor Thomas von Arx, Professor Gianni Salvi, Professor Reinhard Gruber, Dr. Dieter Bosshardt, Dr. Michael Bornstein, Dr. Vivianne Chappuis, Dr. Ulrike Kuchler and Dr. Julia Wittneben.

Learning Objectives

• Learn why a comprehensive preoperative analysis and risk assessment form an important basis for successful long-term outcomes with implant-borne restorations
• Understand the basics of restoration-driven implant placement and the concept of contour augmentation using GBR to optimize esthetic outcomes
• Know the indications and clinical step-by-step procedures for screw-retained or cemented implant restorations

• Treatment planning/risk assessment from a prosthetic point of view
• Implants in the periodontally compromised patient
• Basics of bone cell biology
• Bone healing in membrane protected defects: Bone grafts, bone substitutes and barrier membranes
• Oro-facial anatomy related to implant dentistry
• Case presentation I

DAY 2

• Discussion case I
• Basic surgical principles in implant dentistry, surgical procedures in posterior sites without and with bone defects
• Prosthetic procedures in posterior sites: Keep it simple and safe!
• Prosthetic treatment options in fully edentulous patients
• Live surgeries
• Surgical hands-on I: Tissue level implants in posterior sites / Surgical hands-on II: Bone level implants in esthetic sites

DAY 3

• Surgical hands-on II: Tissue level implants / Surgical hands-on I: Bone level implants
• Live surgeries
• Diagnosis and treatment of biological complications
• Case presentation II
• Visit to the Straumann production center in Villeret

• Risk assessment and surgical aspects for esthetic single tooth replacement
• Provisional restorations in esthetic implant sites
• Prosthetic live demo
• Prevalence and handling of technical complications

• Prosthetic procedures for single tooth replacement in the esthetic zone
• Implant placement with GBR
• Implant placement with sinus grafting procedures
• Prosthetic handling of extended edentulous spaces in the anterior maxilla
