Research for a changing field
Implant dentistry continues to develop, with new technologies, materials and treatment approaches emerging alongside an evolving body of research. The ITI Innovation Forum provides a dedicated format for examining these developing areas and considering what is currently known, where uncertainty remains and where further research is needed.
The ITI Innovation Forum is a new research format for exploring these developing areas. It brings together available research and expert perspectives to consider what is currently known, where questions remain, and where further research may be needed.

The ITI Innovation Forum focuses on areas of implant dentistry where research is still developing.
Each Forum combines scientific reviews, expert input and structured discussion to examine the current state of knowledge, identify areas of uncertainty and consider priorities for further research.

How the Innovation Forum works
Patient-Specific Implant Treatment
15–17 October 2026 · Falkenstein Grand Hotel · Near Frankfurt, Germany
The first ITI Innovation Forum will focus on Patient-Specific Implant Treatment, bringing together experts to examine emerging approaches and the current state of research.
Two working groups will focus on:
- Patient-specific prosthesis-supporting implants and subperiosteal implant designs
- Patient-specific scaffolds for bone regeneration
Zygomatic implants had been in regular use for several decades, but there was limited consensus around indications, techniques and long-term outcomes. The first ITI Consensus Workshop on Zygomatic Implants, held in March 2023, evaluated the current literature towards reaching consensus and providing evidence-based recommendations for safe use. The resulting consensus paper and four review papers were published in the International Journal of Implant Dentistry.
The ITI Conference on Computer-Assisted Implant Surgery, held in November 2024, brought researchers and clinicians together to examine the state of the art, identify clinical needs and consider the development and implementation of computer-assisted technologies in implant dentistry. The conference generated a series of ITI White Papers covering areas including terminology, clinical outcomes, patient perspectives and education.
The ITI Research Committee assesses and funds research projects in implant dentistry and related fields, and identifies and promotes novel scientific research in implant dentistry.
