About the Scholarship Center
The University of Toronto Scholarship Center program is housed primarily at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital with its state-of-the-art dental clinic. ITI Scholars will also have the opportunity to spend time at some of the other teaching hospitals and the University of Toronto. At Holland Bloorview, and Hospital for Sick Children, a great deal of experience has been gathered on dental implants in children, adolescents and young adults, along with a wide variety of unique craniofacial syndrome patients, cleft lip and palate patients, post-tumor ablation patients and patients with post-traumatic defects. Holland Bloorview and Hospital for Sick Children foster interdisciplinary care through close collaboration between the disciplines of prosthodontics, orthodontics and oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Activities during the Scholarship year
Treating patients under faculty supervision in the first 6 months. Treating patients alone if the Scholar has sufficient skills to do so. The Scholarship Center Faculty will determine the extent of patient treatment based on the progression of skills demonstrated by the scholar during their first 6 months in the Center. Patient treatment is only permitted inside the Dental School.
The right to come to work and study in Canada is determined by Immigration Canada. The right to provide the full range of supervised treatment and care to patients, including surgical and prosthodontic care, is regulated by the licensing authority, the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario. Once accepted by the ITI with proof of funding, the successful ITI Scholar must apply to Immigration Canada at the Canadian Embassy in their home country for a work permit for Canada. The ITI Scholar must also apply to the Royal College of Dental Surgeons for an educational license and pay the same licensing fees that all postgraduate students in Ontario must also pay.

This guide deals with application for work permit, registration with University of Toronto, Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, SickKids Hospital, Toronto ITI Study Club, and details of daily living and finding accommodation in Toronto.
The ITI Scholar will interface with specialists from the teaching hospitals and work closely together with graduate students and fellows in prosthodontics, pediatric dentistry, orthodontics and oral and maxillofacial surgery. This unique interdisciplinary experience in the care of pediatric and young patients will enhance the ITI Scholar's experience. Emphasis of clinical training is in Prosthodontics.
ITI Scholars will be expected to become actively involved in all areas of care related to the field of dental implantology and bone regeneration. Scholars will be expected to complete a research project during their time at the Scholarship Center.
During the scholarship year, the Scholar's time will be allocated to the activities below as follows (estimate)
Fluency in English. TOEFL or IELTS certificate as proof of proficiency in English (for non-native English speakers) needed by the beginning of the ITI Scholarship year.

We strongly advise you to consider cost of living (housing/rent, food, transportation, etc.) in the city of this ITI Scholarship Center, as certain destinations can be very expensive. It is essential to understand that the ITI scholarship stipend does not cover all living expenses but only contributes to these. Therefore, make sure you are fully aware of the cost of living in the city of this Scholarship Center if you consider applying for it. You must be prepared to co-finance the cost of living out of your own pocket. The ITI cannot provide additional funding during the scholarship year.
