About the Scholarship Center

Located in the heart of Europe, the ITI Scholarship Center in Liège is hosted within the Department of Periodontology, Oro-dental and Implant Surgery (UPerio Liège; Prof. France Lambert) at the University of Liège. The scholar is integrated into a clinical, academic and research environment, in close collaboration with the Department of Prosthodontics (Prof. Marc Lamy) and the Department of Fixed Prosthodontics and restorative dentistry (Prof. Alain Vanheusden).
The University Hospital (CHU Liège), the only university hospital in Wallonia, covers all dental specialties. Over 1,000 implants and more than 200 bone augmentation procedures are performed annually. The facilities feature advanced technologies including intraoral scanners, CBCT, dynamic navigation systems, and fully digital workflows for surgical and prosthetic planning.
UPerio Liège is also an established center for undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education, offering an EFP-accredited Master in Periodontology, a Certificate in Implant Dentistry, and yearly international courses. More information: www.uperio-liege.be

The Department delivers state-of-the-art periodontal and implant treatments, with strong expertise in regenerative procedures and evidence-based surgical protocols. Clinical care is fully integrated with prosthodontics to ensure comprehensive treatment planning.
Department of Prosthodontics (Prof. Marc Lamy)
The department focuses on conventional and implant prosthodontics, full-arch rehabilitation, occlusion, and modern digital workflows. Collaboration with UPerio Liège ensures an interdisciplinary approach for all implant cases.
Department of Fixed Prosthodontics and restorative dentistry (Prof. Alain Vanheusden, Prof. Amélie Mainjot)
The department of Fixed Prosthodontics at the University Hospital of Liège is focused on esthetic and minimally-invasive dentistry, as well as multidisciplinary management of complex cases on teeth and implants.

Clinical activities the ITI Scholar will participate in during the Scholarship year
Treatment planning sessions
Performing oral hygiene procedures and maintenance
Observing patient treatment
Assisting in patient treatment
Treating patients under faculty supervision: placing implants
Treating patients under faculty supervision: restoring implants
Treating patients alone: placing implants
Treating patients alone: restoring implants
Laboratory and procedures associated with treatment
Local regulations and special requirements the Scholar must fulfill to be able to participate in clinical activities and treat patients

Due to national regulations, scholars do not treat their own patients.

Additional information on the clinical activities

The scholar will be able to observe and assist in clinical treatment (surgical and prosthetic). The scholar takes part in surgical and prosthetic sessions, treatment planning meetings, clinical seminars, and selected postgraduate courses (depending on language and availability). Participation in UPerio lectures, ITI events and international congresses is encouraged.

Postgraduate education/specialization
Postgraduate training in the following specialty/one of the following specialties is a must:

Min. three years of professional clinical experience as a qualified dentist required
Min. three years of professional clinical experience as a qualified dentist including implant dentistry required
Research activities the ITI Scholar will participate in during the Scholarship year

The scholar participates in the activities of the Dental Biomaterials Research Unit, which leads translational research in regenerative biomaterials and implant dentistry. The scholar is involved in:
• ongoing clinical research projects
• research methodology training
• development of an individual research project under supervision

Research experience required
Research experience supported by peer-reviewed scientific publications (original papers) is a must.

Cost of living

We strongly advise you to consider cost of living (housing/rent, food, transportation, etc.) in the city of this ITI Scholarship Center, as certain destinations can be very expensive. It is essential to understand that the ITI scholarship stipend does not cover all living expenses but only contributes to these. Therefore, make sure you are fully aware of the cost of living in the city of this Scholarship Center if you consider applying for it. You must be prepared to co-finance the cost of living out of your own pocket. The ITI cannot provide additional funding during the scholarship year.
