About the Scholarship Center

Chulalongkorn University was established in 1917. Ranked as the best University in Thailand in many surveys. The University currently has 20 faculty and 23 Colleges and Research institutes, more than 8,000 faculty members and over 37,000 students.
The department of OMFS has a strong tradition in both clinical teaching and research. It covers all clinical areas of oral and maxillofacial surgery at undergraduate and postgraduate level, with multiple programs and more than 30 residents. Computer Assisted Implant Surgery (CAIS) is one strongest research areas of the department, with world-class achievements. The Centre of Excellence in CAIS has in the last 5 years treated hundreds of patients with static and dynamic navigation technologies, while it has published more than a dozen highly cited studies in international peer reviewed journals.
The department of Periodontology created the first Postgraduate Program in Periodontology in Thailand in 1974, which aimed to produce dentist specialized in Periodontics. As the world’s evolution driven by the modern research in the field of periodontal regeneration and dental implant, the department continued to improve and develop a new curriculum to serve the higher education needs for the community. The objective was to produce not only dentists specialized in Periodontics, but also one who was capable of a life-long learning and researching for new knowledges. The Center of Excellence in Periodontal Disease and Dental Implants has shown promising results in research with a continuous presence of publications in well-known international journals.
ITI scholar will have a chance to participate in both departments and follow the whole treatment flow under staff’s supervision. Scholar will have an opportunity to implant treatment planning session with prosthodontic department and also welcome to attend seminars, journal clubs or lectures together with all postgraduate students.

Activities

Activities during the Scholarship year

Clinical activities the ITI Scholar will participate in during the Scholarship year
Treatment planning sessions
Performing oral hygiene procedures and maintenance
Observing patient treatment
Assisting in patient treatment
Treating patients under faculty supervision: placing implants
Treating patients under faculty supervision: restoring implants
Treating patients alone: placing implants
Treating patients alone: restoring implants
Laboratory procedures associated with treatment
Local regulations and special requirements the Scholar must fulfill to be able to participate in clinical activities and treat patients

By the rule and regulation of Thai Dental Council, ITI Scholars can perform clinical work under Mentor license.

ITI Scholars might be assigned clinical work according to their mentor.

Postgraduate education/specialization
Postgraduate training in the following specialty/one of the following specialties is a must: Periodontology, Oral Surgery or Prosthodontics
Postgraduate training in the following specialty/one of the following specialties is an advantage:
Minimum three years of professional clinical experience as a qualified dentist
Minimum three years of professional clinical experience as a qualified dentist including implant dentistry
Research activities the ITI Scholar will participate in during the Scholarship year
Involvement in preclinical research
Involvement in translational research
Involvement in clinical research
Coordinated involvement with existing center research activities
Mentors will be assigned to the Scholar according to their research preference
Scholars will be able to start their own research projects
Research experience required
Research experience supported by peer-reviewed scientific publications (original papers) is a must.
Research experience supported by peer-reviewed scientific publications (original papers) is desired.
No research experience required.

ITI Scholars will be assigned to participate in research projects according to their Mentor.

ITI scholars can join the University social activities depending on the available time.

Cost of living

We strongly advise you to consider cost of living (housing/rent, food, transportation, etc.) in the city of this ITI Scholarship Center, as certain destinations can be very expensive. It is essential to understand that the ITI scholarship stipend does not cover all living expenses but only contributes to these. Therefore, make sure you are fully aware of the cost of living in the city of this Scholarship Center if you consider applying for it. You must be prepared to co-finance the cost of living out of your own pocket. The ITI cannot provide additional funding during the scholarship year.
