About the Scholarship Center
The College of Dental Medicine was established in 2004 by decree of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, member of the Federal Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. Initially, the College offered a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) program based on the University of Adelaide’s curriculum. In 2019, the College expanded its offerings with a three-year Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) program in Oral Surgery, Prosthodontics, Periodontology, and Endodontics. The MDS in Orthodontics was introduced in 2022. Over this period, the College has seen significant growth in its curriculum, infrastructure, technology, and academic staff. Recently, the College launched a Ph.D. program in Dental Sciences.
The implant dentistry teaching and clinical activity -are mainly tailored around the requirements for training Master students enrolled in specialty programs. The core teaching is composed of 4 semestrial courses of theoretical/didactic/preclinical training delivered in years one and two of the master’s programs. The teaching is composed of weekly seminars. In parallel, students attend dedicated multidisciplinary teaching implant clinics. In these clinics, 3 instructors are present (prosthodontist, oral surgeon, and Periodontist).
The teaching implant activity adopts a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to implant rehabilitation, and residents place almost 300 implants annually. Furthermore, multiple implant systems are in use, and we are currently developing an in-house digital implantology workflow.
On the other hand, the College has a faculty-led private practice called “the center of excellence.” In this facility, almost another 300 implants are placed annually, mainly for senior citizens of Sharjah, who benefit from social services coverage of implant-related expenses.
