About the Scholarship Center
The School of Dental Medicine at the University of Bern has been ranked among the top 10 dental schools worldwide for the past eight years (e.g. ranked No. 8 in 2026 according to the QS World University Rankings for Dentistry).
The Department of Periodontology at the School of Dental Medicine of the University of Bern, Switzerland, is an internationally recognized center of excellence in periodontology and implant dentistry.
The Department of Periodontology at the University of Bern is the only accredited postgraduate program of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) in Switzerland and is renowned for its expertise in clinical and translational research in the fields of periodontology, implant dentistry including peri-implant diseases and periodontal plastic surgery.
The ITI Scholarship program in the Department of Periodontology offers a unique experience to young colleagues striving to improve their expertise in periodontology and implant dentistry. ITI Scholars in the Department of Periodontology benefit from close mentorship by world-renowned experts, including Prof. Anton Sculean and Prof. Giovanni E. Salvi.
ITI Scholars will have an opportunity to participate in treatment planning sessions of clinical cases, literature seminars, assist/observe in periodontal and implant surgical procedures and be part of research projects potentially leading to publication in highly ranked scientific journals. This unique exposure to clinical and research activities may constitute the first step for a successful academic career.
Additional offerings include participation in the ITI Education Week and other continuing education courses offered by the Department of Periodontology.

Activities during the Scholarship year
During the scholarship year, the Scholar's time will be allocated to the activities below as follows (estimate)
Fluency in English is required. Basic language skills in German are an advantage.
ITI Scholars will have the opportunity to take part in all implant therapy related CE courses offered by the School of Dental Medicine including the ITI Education Week and Master Courses on bone grafting and in esthetic implant dentistry. ITI Scholars are invited to get involved with a research project resulting in a publication.
We strongly advise you to consider cost of living (housing/rent, food, transportation, etc.) in the city of this ITI Scholarship Center, as certain destinations can be very expensive. It is essential to understand that the ITI scholarship stipend does not cover all living expenses but only contributes to these. Therefore, make sure you are fully aware of the cost of living in the city of this Scholarship Center if you consider applying for it. You must be prepared to co-finance the cost of living out of your own pocket. The ITI cannot provide additional funding during the scholarship year.
