Das Universit\u00e4tsklinikum verf\u00fcgt \u00fcber 1.500 Betten und behandelt j\u00e4hrlich mehr als 350.000 Patienten. Die Abteilung f\u00fcr Mund-, Kiefer- und Gesichtschirurgie behandelt j\u00e4hrlich mehr als 1.500 station\u00e4re und 10.000 ambulante Patienten und ist in der Zahnmedizinischen Fakult\u00e4t mit mehr als 600 Zahnmedizinstudenten angesiedelt. Sie bietet sowohl f\u00fcr station\u00e4re als auch f\u00fcr ambulante Patienten das gesamte Behandlungsspektrum dieses Fachgebiets an (Zahnimplantologie, Zahnchirurgie, Traumatologie, Behandlung von Fehlbildungen, Onkologie). Klinische und wissenschaftliche Expertise auf dem Gebiet der Implantologie ist seit mehr als 30 Jahren Teil unserer t\u00e4glichen Arbeit, wobei j\u00e4hrlich mehr als 1.000 Implantate eingesetzt werden. Patienten ben\u00f6tigen h\u00e4ufig das gesamte Spektrum der orofazialen Rehabilitation. Dies reicht von der Rehabilitation nach Tumoren oder Gaumenspalten in Verbindung mit umfangreichen osteoplastischen Eingriffen (konventionelle, mikrovaskul\u00e4re und Distraktionstechniken) bis hin zu \u00e4sthetisch anspruchsvollen Einzelzahnersatzl\u00f6sungen. Alle Rehabilitationskonzepte werden in enger Zusammenarbeit mit der Abteilung f\u00fcr Prothetische Zahnmedizin (Prof. Dr. Abou-Ayash) geplant und durchgef\u00fchrt. Digitale Workflow-Einrichtungen (einschlie\u00dflich eines 3D-Druckers) werden routinem\u00e4\u00dfig in Zusammenarbeit mit der Abteilung f\u00fcr Prothetik eingesetzt. In unserem histologischen und Zelllabor wird Grundlagenforschung auf dem Gebiet der Knochenersatzmaterialien und der Wechselwirkung zwischen Biomaterialien und Zellen betrieben. Fragen im Zusammenhang mit Mikroskopie und Analyse werden in Zusammenarbeit mit dem universit\u00e4ren Schwerpunktprogramm BiomaTiCS behandelt. Dar\u00fcber hinaus betreiben wir klinische Forschung, einschlie\u00dflich Tiermodellen und klinischer Studien gem\u00e4\u00df GCP. An interest in the full spectrum of dental and maxillofacial surgery is desirable and ITI Scholars are invited to join the teams of surgeons in the operating theater. For insurance reasons ITI Scholars are not normally able to treat their own patients. They are encouraged to participate in all continuing education courses organized by our department. We expect our ITI Scholars to be involved in research projects as co-investigators or to start their own projects with the team.
