Researchers must adhere to the 3Rs principles to evaluate the necessity of animal experiments:\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #00599b;\">\u2022 Replacement:<\/span> Are there alternative methods that could reduce or completely replace the\r\nneed for animal experiments?\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #00599b;\">\u2022 Reduction:<\/span> Can the number of animals used to be minimized?\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #00599b;\">\u2022 Refinement:<\/span> How can stress and pain be minimized?\r\n\r\nSpecific guidelines and regulations, mandated by law, govern the allocation of research funds\r\nby the Foundation. The First Applicant is responsible for purchasing items in their country\r\nusing the grant funds as budgeted. In multi-center studies or similar projects, the First Applicant must supply co-workers with necessary materials.\r\n\r\nThe ITI Research Grant application must be completed in accordance with the latest version of the <strong>ITI Terms &amp; Conditions<\/strong> and current guidelines.\r\n<div>Applications <strong>failing to meet<\/strong> the prescribed terms and conditions, guidelines, or restrictions will be <strong>excluded from the evaluation<\/strong> process.<\/div>\r\nApplications can only be accepted if they are submitted by the specified deadline and both First Applicant and the Institution signed the Terms &amp; Conditions.\r\n\r\nEvaluation of the application is contingent upon the provision of accurate and complete information by the applicant(s). Independent applicants are requested to get in touch with ITI Headquarters before submitting their application.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Once a grant has been awarded, the First Applicant is barred from making any further grant application <strong>for a period of three years.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li>First applicants are restricted to <strong>one <\/strong>application per application deadline.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Once a grant has been awarded, no additional funding will be awarded to the grant recipient for the same study at a later point in time.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Research proposals that comprise two or more consecutive, interdependent work packages (e.g., a laboratory study followed by an animal study) cannot be funded if the second experiment (i.e., the animal study) can only be designed based on the results of the first experiment (i.e., the laboratory study).<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nThe ITI aims for a responsible and restricted use of animal models and expects a clear argumentation from the researcher.
