Restorative Options in the Digital Era: 3D Engineering in Implant Dentistry (Part 2)

Wael Att

This lecture describes various digital tools and techniques to develop clinically acceptable prosthetic outcomes. It is the second of two parts and describes the complexity of transferring intraoral scanning information onto the virtual articulator. The need to combine digital and analogue techniques to achieve accurate jaw relation transfer as well as prosthesis accuracy is emphasized. ITI Fellow Wael Att, with his clinical experience, questions the accuracies of fully digital workflows in restoring the complete arch with implant-supported prostheses. The digital workflow of the stackable surgical guide as well as the provisional restoration is well described to restore the completely edentulous mandibular arch supported by multiple implants. The concept of few-teeth supported surgical guides for full-arch implant placement is introduced.

At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…

  • explain basic and advanced virtual bite registration and mounting procedures
  • recognize the complexity of fully digital workflows to restore complete arch implant prostheses
  • describe superimposition of various digital scanning data sets for complete arch fixed implant prostheses
  • discuss clinical recommendations to use a complete arch implant-supported zirconia superstructure
