Primary topics include the principles for appropriate use of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and the techniques to limit patient radiation exposure. Relevant clinical questions for implant treatment planning that can be answered by 3D imaging are categorized into anterior maxilla, posterior maxilla, anterior mandible, and posterior mandible. The use of CBCT in the diagnosis of implant failures and complications is also addressed.

The lecture concludes with a discussion of the ITI guidelines and recommendations for use of 3D imaging techniques.
