Season's Greetings

Season's Greetings

The ITI will achieve a landmark in 2018 – it is anticipated that we will have 18,500 members worldwide by the end of the year, a record number for our association. Together with the 45,000 individuals who have registered on the ITI Online Academy, we now reach over 63,000 members and affiliates around the world.

The strong growth of the ITI reflects the myriad of activities that we undertake each year. The highlight of the academic calendar was the 6th ITI Consensus Conference 2018 held in Amsterdam in April. There were 5 major topics comprising surgery, prosthodontics, patient-reported outcomes, complications/risk and digital technologies. In total, 21 systematic reviews were prepared by 80 authors and co-authors in preparation for the consensus workshop. The 153 participants and observers worked diligently over the 3 days to prepare consensus statements, clinical recommendations and recommendations for future research. The proceedings have now been published online in a special supplement of Clinical Oral Implants Research.

The ITI continues to lead as a major conference organizer. This year, I had the pleasure of attending the ITI Congresses in Mexico, Brazil, Germany, UK & Ireland, Japan, and the Middle East. National congresses were also held in Finland, and Greece & Cyprus. I also attended a congress in Sochi, Russia and was impressed with the rapid development of the ITI in this vast country. A highlight of the year was a visit to the inaugural ITI education event of our newest ITI Section in Chile this December. In total, more than 5,000 participated in ITI national and regional congresses globally. My congratulations to all the Leadership Teams and Scientific Program Committees for their hard work and enthusiasm that underpinned the success of these congresses.

On a smaller, but by no means any less significant scale, are the 674 Study Clubs that provide 3 to 4 educational events each year. In 2018, there were more than 2,000 study activities in total. The Study Clubs are a very important membership benefit, and this could not be achieved without the support of all the Study Club Directors. The ITI thanks you all!

In recognizing the success of the ITI, it is also important to remember the driving force behind this success – and that is the global union of clinicians and teachers who share the same thirst for knowledge, and the same goals of practicing and advancing the best practice of patient-centered implant dentistry.

My very best wishes to all in the ITI family – have a happy, healthy and successful 2019.
