Activities during the Scholarship year
The right to come to work and study in Canada is determined by Immigration Canada. The right to provide the full range of supervised treatment and care to patients, including surgical and prosthodontic care, is regulated by the licensing authority, the Order of Dentists of Quebec. Once accepted by the ITI with proof of funding, the successful ITI Scholar must apply to Immigration Canada at the Canadian Embassy in their home country for a work permit for Canada. The ITI Scholar must also apply to the Order of Dentists for an educational license and pay the same licensing fees that all postgraduate students in Quebec must also pay.
Overview of requirements:
• Canadian work permit
• Educational license from the Order of Dentists of Quebec
• TOEFL or IELTS certificate for non-native English speakers
The scholar will have the opportunity of providing patient care at the McGill implant clinic under the mentorship of specialists in periodontics and prosthodontics. Depending on the candidate’s experience and level of comfort, the scholar will be trained in a wide range of surgical and restorative treatments and be involved in comprehensive implant dentistry, including treatment planning, surgical placement, and restoration of dental implants.
The experience of each incoming scholar will be individualized and tailored to their backgrounds and motivation. Scholars will have opportunities to onboard on multiple research projects, participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning and gain experience in teaching dental students the fundamentals of implantology. Additionally, clinical teaching of predoctoral students for at least one day per week is part of the scholar’s curriculum.
Milestone plans and timelines will be established for the scholar to ensure that his/her experience culminates in research presentations, such as at the ITI conference and in scientific publication of results. Opportunities will be available for participation in the local ITI study club, regional and national implantology meetings.
Postgraduate training in the following specialty/one of the following specialties is an advantage: Periodontics or Prosthodontics
Research experience supported by peer-reviewed scientific publications (original papers) is desired.
During the scholarship year, the Scholar's time will be allocated to the activities below as follows (estimate)
