In this update we report on an analysis of data that has shown six distinct “cluster symptom types” of COVID-19 that could be used to predict earlier the need for subsequent respiratory support in severe COVID-19. We also highlight the increasing recognition of persisting symptoms after recovery from COVID-19 and the importance of widespread implementation of seasonal influenza vaccination.
A critical factor in COVID-19 precautions for dental practice continues to be mitigation of aerosol-generating procedures (AGP). In this update we feature a newly published comprehensive review by the Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme with the support of Cochrane Oral Health. The document covers definitions, procedural and environmental mitigation.
As winter approaches in the Northern Hemisphere, the rate of transmission is again steadily on the rise in many countries, and restrictive measures are being reintroduced. Look to the ITI COVID-19 Risk Assessment for assistance with balancing COVID-19 period considerations for implant therapy with local restrictions, patient COVID-19 epidemiological status, patient general risk status and dental procedural aerosol risk.
