Title:
Implant retained telescope overdenture on 6 implants in the maxilla and implant retained overdenture on 4 implants in the mandible

Introduction:
A 60 years old female patient was referred to our clinic for oral- and maxillofacial surgery (Katharinenhospital Stuttgart) to rehabilitate her totally edentulous situation.

The patient presented good healthy conditions and no risk factors. The extended periodontitis history had resulted in a moderate atrophy of the maxilla.
Clinical examination revealed a healthy keratinized mucosa with a favorable morphology and no apparent signs of infection.
Radiologically a lack of bone in the vertical and horizontal aspect could be detected in the upper jaw. In the lower jaw the residual bone proved to be sufficient for the insertion of 4 implants in the interforaminal region.
The intermaxillary relation was adequate for a prosthodontic rehabilitation with overdentures.

Surgical and prosthodontic treatment steps were accomplished as listed below:

  1. Sinus-Lift and lateral augmentation on both sides with iliac crest bone graft.
  2. After 6 months healing period insertion of 6 implants in the maxilla and 4 in the mandible.
  3. Restorative rehabilitation 5 months after implant insertion. Telescope-retained overdenture in the maxilla and bar-retained overdenture.
