Scholarship Center

Bloorview Kids Rehab, University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada

The University of Toronto Scholarship Center program is housed primarily at Bloorview Kids Rehab with its state-of-the-art dental clinic. ITI Scholars will also have the opportunity to spend time at some of the other Teaching Hospitals and the University of Toronto. At the Bloorview Kids Review, Hospital for Sick Children and Mount Sinai Hospital a great deal of experience has been gathered on dental implants in children, adolescents and young adults, along with a wide variety of unique craniofacial syndrome patients, cleft lip and palate patients, post-tumor ablation patients and patients with post-traumatic defects. Bloorview Kids Rehab and the other Teaching Hospitals foster interdisciplinary care through close collaboration between the disciplines of Prosthodontics, Orthodontics and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. This is one major reason for the success of the dental implant programs at these hospitals.

ITI Scholars will participate in all phases of surgical and prosthodontic care from the initial consultation and treatment planning through post restoration maintenance and care within the framework of multidisciplinary care. ITI Scholars will also be expected to become actively involved in all areas of care and research related to the field of dental implantology and bone regeneration. Scholars will be expected to complete a research project during their time at the Scholarship Center.

The ITI Scholar will interface with specialists of the Teaching Hospitals and work closely together with the Graduate Students and Fellows in Prosthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. This unique interdisciplinary experience in the care of pediatric and young patients will enhance the ITI Scholar’s experience.

The right to come to work and study in Canada is determined by Immigration Canada. The right to provide the full range of supervised treatment and care to the patients, including surgical and prosthodontic care, is regulated by the licensing authority, the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario. Once accepted by the ITI with proof of funding, the successful ITI Scholar must apply to Immigration Canada at the Canadian Embassy in their home country for a work permit for Canada. The Scholar must also apply to the Royal College of Dental Surgeons for an educational license and pay the same licensing fees that all post graduate students in Ontario must also pay.
