Scholarship Center

University of Connecticut, Farmington, USA
School of Dental Medicine

The scholarship program at the University of Connecticut encompasses a flexible, scholar-driven program of clinical and didactic education and research in implant dentistry. Scholars share their time between the Divisions of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Prosthodontics and Periodontology. Surgical, prosthodontic and periodontic experience are provided. Scholars can expect to gain extensive surgical experience, primarily as surgical assistants to OMFS faculty and will gain experience as prosthodontic or periodontic treatment providers for selected cases, with observation and exposure to a wide variety of prosthodontic and periodontic clinical situations. There is an excellent opportunity for potential research participation in ongoing basic science, mechanical, or clinical research projects. It must be emphasized that the scholar’s program year will reflect the scholar’s personal wish for experience. Those wishing to further their surgical exposure will spend more time with the surgical faculty while those interested in prosthodontics or periodontology will spend the majority of their time in the prosthodontic or periodontic clinic. Scholars will participate in case conference and treatment planning seminars as well as other didactic exposure as agreed to between faculty and the scholar. The key to this scholarship opportunity is flexibility in surgical, prosthodontic and periodontic experience. The starting date of the scholarship is usually in September but is negotiable.
