About the Scholarship Center

The ITI Scholarship program at the University of Geneva is hosted by the Division of Fixed Prosthodontics and Biomaterials. In this division the specializing clinicians are active in both implant surgery as well as implant prosthodontics. Close collaboration with other divisions involved in implant dentistry like the Division for Periodontology and the Division for Oral Surgery offers a broad view of the entire field of implant dentistry to Scholars in Geneva.

Overview of clinical activities during the Scholarship year

  • Treating patients under supervision
At the University of Geneva Scholarship Center, ITI Scholars have the possibility to treat specific clinical cases with localized problems during their scholarship year under the supervision of senior faculty. The complexity and the number of cases is defined by the senior faculty in charge of the ITI Scholars or the Chair of the Division, and depends on the clinical experience and experience of the ITI Scholar.
In general, patients who need fixed tooth- and implant- borne reconstructions are treated by the Division of Fixed Prosthodontics and Biomaterials. Treatments encompass the clinical concept of the Division, including the most recent digital technology and new dental materials. The clinical spectrum encompasses treatment planning and diagnostics in close interaction with dental technicians, placement of implants, and the subsequent rehabilitation of patients by means of tooth- and implant-borne restorations.
  • Observing clinical patient treatment
ITI Scholars receive a thorough theoretical and clinical education in the University of Geneva’s clinical concepts. They are trained step-by-step in weekly treatment planning seminars.
  • Assisting in patient treatment

ITI Scholars have the possibility to participate and assist in clinical treatment carried out by the Division Chair, senior faculty as well as postgraduate students.
Close interaction between the Divisions of Fixed Prosthodontics and Biomaterials, Removable Prosthodontics and Geriodontology, Operative Dentistry, Periodontology and Oral Surgery enable ITI Scholars in Geneva to be part of interdisciplinary patient care and to learn how to approach complex clinical situations.
Regular interdisciplinary case planning seminars with the Division of Orthodontics provide targeted interaction between prosthodontists and orthodontists.

  • Research opportunities

The research areas of the Division of Fixed Prosthodontics and Biomaterials encompass clinical studies on fixed reconstructions testing new implant and tooth-based restorative concepts, optical impressions and digital technology in dentistry and new dental materials. Biomaterial basic research is also performed. Development of new implant surfaces and regenerative materials and their biologic integration also takes place as well as property testing of dental restorative materials. There is strong interaction between basic sciences and clinical research, translating the basic information into clinical reality.
ITI Scholars can participate intensively in the divisional research and have the possibility to develop and pursue their own scientific projects within the scope of the Division’s research.
