ITI-funded research receives The Robin Heath Citation Award 2016

The ITI congratulates Janice S. Ellis, Alissa Levine, Christophe Bedos, Phillippe Mojon, Zeer Rosberger, Jocelyne Feine and J. Mark Thomason on receiving The Robin Heath Citation Award for the most cited paper in the journal Gerodontology between 2011 and 2015. They received the award for their ITI-funded study "Refusal of implant supported mandibular overdentures by elderly patients" that investigated the question of why elderly patients who are currently dissatisfied with conventional dentures decline implant treatment.

The initial idea for this important publication evolved during another study funded by the ITI. Researcher Jocelyne Feine commented: "I met Mark Thomason as part of the development of an ITI-funded multi-national study on implant-overdentures in which I was principal investigator. From our collaboration in that first study, Mark spent a few summers working with me at McGill University. The idea for the refuser study, and the subsequent awarded publication, came from our conversations about the difficulties we had in recruiting elders for clinical trials with implants. The bottom line is that funding collaborative research can result in more than publications; it can lead to new groups and ideas that are "profitable" in terms of the production of additional important and highly relevant evidence."
