"Another Brick in the Wall" was the topic of the fourth ITI Congress Southern Africa that took place at the University of Pretoria from July 16 – 17, 2016. But other than in the song by Pink Floyd, the 250 participants were keen to receive solid education in order to overcome the challenges presented by the ongoing developments in the implant dentistry field. The faculty made up of highly distinguished local speakers was complemented by ITI President-elect Stephen Chen and Will Martin, Education Delegate of the ITI Section USA.
Based on the fundamental building blocks "planning", "decision making" and "execution", the well thought-out, chronological scientific program led participants from case assessment through treatment planning and clinical procedures to avoidance of complications.
"We aimed at delivering sound knowledge of the highest standards of treatment in daily practice," said Paul van Zyl, Chair of the Scientific Program Committee. "Participants particularly appreciated the wealth of information about the decision making process in conjunction with step-by-step explanations of the required clinical procedures. From the positive feedback and the many personal messages we received, the congress was a huge success."
The main program was complemented by a poster and a young speaker competition which were also very well received.
