ITI Congress South East Asia exceeds all expectations

Established in 2011, the ITI Section South East Asia is one of the youngest Sections in the ITI. It recently held its first national congress in Bangkok which ran under the title “Achieving Esthetic Success in Implant Dentistry”. With approximately 550 participants – 250 more than originally anticipated – the congress was a great success.

Among the highlights of the two-day congress were the lectures by Daniel Buser and Urs Belser from Switzerland. “They both motivated the participants to follow the ITI principles of treatment”, said Chatchai Kunavisarut, Study Club Coordinator of the Section. The highly professional and entertaining lectures by the regional speakers contributed to the overall success of the congress which aimed at enabling participants to assess and manage cases in the esthetic zone with confidence and referring to evidence-based data.

“The participants appreciated the excellent quality of the lectures and the feedback we received was very positive”, commented Chi-Cheong Yip, Communications Officer. The congress hall was packed even during the usually less busy afternoon of the second day and, compared to similar congresses in Europe, the international audience was rather young and included many women. “This could be an indication of how the future of implant dentistry will look like”, said Philipp Nueesch, Section Administrator. “The ITI Section South East Asia gave a clear signal that the world’s leading organization in implant dentistry is also on track to becoming the leading association in South East Asia.”

“We were hoping to show that the ITI Section South East Asia was able to organize a high-level meeting. The large number of participants and the outstanding quality of the speakers clearly showed that our congress was equally or even more successful than congresses in more established Sections”, said Alvin Yeo, Education Delegate and Chair of the Scientific Program Committee.

“Our aim was clear. We wanted the inaugural congress to be not only a focal point of robust discussion, but also a strategic platform for leading experts and regional professionals to meet. We are pleased to note that the congress met its objectives and was very well received. We are determined to raise the bar at future congresses and look forward to the challenge”, concluded Sharifah Fauziah, Chair of the ITI Section South East Asia.
