The ITI Education Week Porto Alegre has just come to an end: the first course held in Spanish and Portuguese at Hospital Moinhos de Vento was an outstanding success. The five-day ran under the topic “From Extraction to Rehabilitation” and focused on the biological and clinical effects of tooth loss and approaches to rehabilitation, including alveolar bone preservation and staged bone grafts. “We wanted participants to gain a solid understanding of advanced and complex implant dentistry. This was covered by a comprehensive program including lectures, case discussions, hands-on practical sessions and live surgeries”, said Waldemar Polido, who directed the course. He was supported by local and international ITI Fellows, among them Hans-Peter Weber, Maurício Araújo, Jean Paul Martinet, Wagner Duarte, Mauro Tosta, Joao Garcez Filho, Dudu Pittas do Canto and Leandro Nunes.
According to Waldemar Polido, feedback from the participants was excellent, particularly in regard to the surgical and restorative workshops and the discussions: “Participants especially appreciated that there was enough time for questions and elaborate discussions between participants and faculty members”.
Despite this positive feedback, he remains self-critical: “There is still room for improvement. I am sure next year’s edition will be even better.” Preparations for the ITI Education Week Porto Alegre 2015 are already under way. More information as well as the registration form will soon be available on the ITI website.
