The first ITI Education Week Melbourne has just come to an end: the almost completely sold-out course held at Melbourne Dental School and the brand new Melbourne Dental Clinic was an outstanding success. “We wanted participants to gain a solid understanding of simple and advanced implant dentistry. This was covered by a comprehensive program including lectures, hands-on practical sessions and live procedures allowing participant interaction with the operators”, said Ivan Darby who directed the course together with Roy Judge. The two of them were supported by local ITI Fellows Stephen Chen, Anthony Dickinson, Christopher Evans and Robert De Poi as well as Melbourne Dental School staff. According to Ivan Darby, feedback from the participants was excellent, particularly in regard to the live procedures: “Participants felt the course flowed very well and was well structured”, he said.
The course was aimed at practitioners with some or little implant experience and covered restorative, surgical and radiographic assessment as well as implant placement in posterior and anterior sites with live surgical procedures. Restoration of single implants in these areas and management of an overdenture case were also covered, again with live procedures. Lectures and hands-on sessions on the management of implant complications rounded off the program.
The course also offered plenty of opportunity for networking and discussion among the participants, who spent most of the evenings together.
Preparations for a second course in 2015 are already under way. More information will be made available on the ITI website soon.
